My adventures in the Central Marketing Organization

I cannot believe time has passed so quickly. I have already reached the half-time of my internship at Microsoft Austria! Time to give an update about my projects and tasks in the CMO (Central Marketing Organization). What I like most about my internship is that I can gain insights in so many different fields: Consumer Marketing, Enterprise Marketing, Social Media, Event Management and many more!

My main project, however, is the Windows Touchpoint which is located in the WU Mensa, the canteen of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

I am happy that the Touchpoint is my very own project during my internship. Basically I am responsible for the planning of all activities and I am able to decide everything on my own. Nevertheless, I can always ask my colleagues for advice or information. So I planned to organize one big activity per month all semester long. My strategy for these Touchpoint activities is that they should always focus on one Microsoft product and also address a topic students have to deal with at a specific time.

I thought about what students need at the beginning of the semester and which Microsoft product could address this issue. Then the Student Advantage initiative came to my mind. Students are able to download Office 365 for free, but unfortunately many people do not even know about this unique offer. Almost everybody I know uses MS office, so I decided to promote this offer at the Touchpoint.

On 11th and 12th of March I took a wheel of fortune to the WU Mensa and a lots of Microsoft goodies in order to attract many students on their way to the canteen. We also gave away coffee vouchers and 2 tickets for the Thermal Bath Vienna as a main prize. Actually the raffle considerably supported our main goal which was to inform as many students as possible about the Student Advantage initiative. Support was given by Simone and Valerie from the Education-Team and our two promotors. At this point, I want to thank you guys for your great help!

In total we could reach 830 students and we were able to observe a rise of the Office 365 deployment rate.

I was very happy that my first Touchpoint activity went well. It was a lot of work, but also a great success.

What you can expect to happen at the Windows Touchpoint:

On the occasion of the launch of Lumia 640 in April, I am organizing a raffle to be made at the Touchpoint and the lucky winner will win this brand new Windows Phone!

Maybe you have already heard of the Surface 3 launch. The sale start in May is the perfect time to show students how they can easily take notes with the pen of their Surface during their lectures. And the best thing: I will probably be even able to raffle off a Surface 3 – so stay informed at www.windowstouchpoint.at!

With the holidays coming in July it would be cool to form a cooperation with a travel business for my Touchpoint activity in June. Luckily I still have a little bit more time to organize this.

And in the meantime I can enjoy my internship and gain some more insights into exciting projects such as the sponsoring of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Yours, Conny

It is always difficult for a company to get the best employees – therefore it is important to get in touch with potential new hires. And where do you meet them probably? At job fairs – and this was also the case why we were a part of the TU Job Fair in Vienna on April 16th.

Lisa & Carolin (Interns from Enterprise Services) got the chance to support Microsoft together with Johanna (HR), Cornelia (also from Enterprise Services/Premier) and Georg (from DX). There we talked with a lot of high potentials from Vienna which are interested in working at Microsoft.

We promoted our Internships (which are  going to start next Year at January 15th 2016 and lasts 6 months) and our Traineeships (currently 4 positions online starting at July 15th).

If you are also interested in working at Microsoft you can visit to our website www.microsoft.com/jobs and look for current openings. In the case there are at the moment no openings which fit to you, you can configure a job reminder online – then you’ll get the right jobs for you immediately when they go online 🙂

Run the City @ VCM

One of the first things when we started in January was the question if we want to take part at the Vienna City Marathon (VCM) in April. And you know – when you are new in your role you’re typically really enthusiastic about everything – this was the same with the VCM. This was the reason why we decided to start with two teams for the relay – the Microfreshies 🙂

At the race day, on April 12th, it was a really shinny day and we were really excited about taking part at this amazing event. More than 42.000 runners took part in the VCM – and 63 from them where Microsofties. The spirit there was astonishing and probably especially that enabled one of the two interns-teams to make the internal second relay place out of 12 all over the Microsoft Austria Company 🙂

Special thanks to Lili and Sandra who organized the VCM for Microsoft internally and Günther who was our Angel on this day 🙂

Best wishes,

Carolin
