Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 – The Future is NOW

On Tuesday I got the chance to participate for Microsoft at the IDC Internet of Things Event. The agenda was filled with interesting talks: at the beginning the general and broad aspects from the IoT has been discussed then talks from Microsoft and COPADATA about real-time production systems infrastructures equipped with sensors and this sensor data collected and analyzed in the Cloud were held and the end with a talk about Artificial Intelligence from The unbelievable Machine Company.

Have you ever thought about getting no Health Insurance because you do not provide your Insurance Company with personal data from your Smart Watch or Smart Sticker acting as a Health Monitoring Device?

The question is: Is this digital transformation good or bad? All the data collected and analyzed does not just bring the prerequisites for a better world.

“Data is the new Gold”, “Big Data is Power” – Today there are 2.7 Zetabyte on Data Wordwide (Pivotal, IDC) – and it raises by 60% in a single year. We are ongoing producing data through Mobile Apps and GPS data, Sensor data and social networks like Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. But today the most people still do not know how valuable this data is. All this unstructured data analyzed with mathematic models and linked to business opportunities brings huge possibilities for businesses.

But this transformation also takes place in the industry – some of you may now the German buzzword for it: Industry 4.0

COPADATA & Microsoft are offering a solution for Big Data in the production environment called zenon. With the analyzed data from this environment it is possible to control asset efficiency, use predictive maintenance to avoid downtimes and get real-time information from machines and products. In combination with our Cloud Azure it is possible to process huge amounts of data in Petabyte Dimensions and to connect distributed production facilities to report KPIs, trigger benchmarks and enhance production systems.

This and much more is the future – or in this case it is already here.
